Bonnieux (84)

Bonnieux is a village set on the north face of the Luberon, from the ridge of the Luberon Mountain to the banks of the Calavon stream. It offers a panoramic view over the agricultural plains of the Calavon valley, the Monts de Vaucluse and the Mont Ventoux, which appears in the background. A half Roman/ half Gothic church sits on top of the 425 meters high village (1400 ft), which has been guarding the coomb of Lourmarin since the Middle Ages. Indeed, this is the only way crossing the Luberon. Bonnieux has been a fortified village (oppidum) inhabited since the Neolithic and Bronze Age. This is how monuments from different eras tell us about the history of mankind.Bonnieuxs Cedars Forest is worth a halt. You can go across this 700 meters high centennial cedar forest for 10 km (6.2 miles). Dont forget to bring your sneakers!
