Fontvielle & les Baux-de-Provence (13)

Incontournable !
Fontvielle & les Baux-de-ProvenceFontvieille is a picturesque village located in the heart of the Alpilles mountain range and its vast olive tree plantations, its green fields and grove.

If you have ever heard of the novel Letters of my windmill from writer Alphonse Daudet, you will love to be back in the peculiar atmosphere described in his books. If you stroll in the pine alleys to the mill at top of the hill you will see a magnificent view over the Alpilles. You can also walk to the Chateau de Montauban, where Alphonse Daudet used to stay.

Past Fontvieille you can go to Les Baux de Provence, a village perched on a rocky plateau, at an altitude of 245 m, offering you breathtaking views. The village is listed as one of the most beautiful of France. 22 architectural items are listed Monuments Historiques (Historic Landmark): church, castle, city hall, hospital, chapel, old houses, private townhouses, gates…

Do not miss the Image Cathedral, a sound & light show projected on the 4000 square meter rocky walls in the heart of the old pits. A different show is created every year: Cezanne was featured in 2006 and Venezia in 2007.
